Welcome to my website! My name is Ashley Bandy and I am a sophomore at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where I am studying to become a high school math teacher. This site was created as a project for a class entitled "Psychology Applied to Teaching," which discusses the adolescent brain and why certain teaching practices are more effective than others. On this website, I examine four strategies from Doug Lemov's book, Teach Like a Champion, in which he provides strategies for teachers on how to engage students, manage a classroom, and many more. Each strategy is listed on the navigation bar at the top and includes a summary of the strategy, a suggestion of what area of teaching it targets, a description of why it works (based on psychological research), and what it would look like in a classroom. Also included on the main page of each strategy is a link to a video that shows the strategy in use. Since I am studying to teach high school math, each section entitled "What it looks like!" gives an example of what the strategy would look like when employed in a high school Algebra II class. If you enjoy this website, I would suggest purchasing Lemov's book that has forty-five more strategies for teachers at all grade and experience levels.
